Avalanche is MTUMC's uth group's winter reatreat. This trip this year was special because we got to see our ex-uth director Brian Loper for basically the first time since Daytona. This year as last it snowed really hard which isnt unusual for Spruce Pine, NC (in the mountains) at this time of year. But also same as last the guys got ripped again for the lodging situation. The girls got to stay in the main building while the guys cabin was at the top of this steep hill. This was bad because the first night it was wet and ice was created making this hill almost impossible to climb up. Then the second night while being 0 degrees outside, wind blowing about 15 mph, and snowing pretty hard we had to climb the hill to go to bed.
Probably the funniest thing that happened on this trip was Saturday night. After a long day of playing basketball and worship (some went skiing) we had gone up to our cabin. We were all pretty wild seeing that worship had breathed a new breathe of life into us. Since it had been like 6 hrs since we last ate some real food we were all starving. Nobody had any food except for Cole and Brad. Cole being notorious for always having food kept pulling out sandwhichs, chips, and all sorts of food from his bag. Brad on the other hand had the food that he always had, Mnchies. This has to be the greatest snack food ever but thats another topic. Anyways we were pretty loud and since it was 2 uth groups per cabin we had made this like 70 yr. old man in the other half of the cabin mad because we were keeping him up (I guess). So he comes in and asks us to keep it down and gave us a 10 min. time limit. This was his first mistake because we had adults in our room and they were fine with the noise level. But we quieted down and turned off the light. So in about 6 mins this guy comes back into our room and says "Would y'all plaese go to f****** sleep" we were all in total shock and one of our adults Jim Annas says "Dude, we're on a church retreat, we have gone to bed just go on." The only noise I can possibly think that we were making at this time was the fact that we were laughing because Danny and I were pulling Daniel's sleeping bag through the opening beside the wall between the top bunk and the wall. Anyways the was probably the highlight of the weekend.
The next day, we were supposed to leave in the morning after worship. But as it is coming time to leave we find out that the bus door has frozen shut. This caused us to fall behind schedule about 2 hrs. When the door is finally open we hit the road. Going down the road I begin to smell burning rubber but being so tired I keep it to myself. Then all-of-a-sudden there is this crash and it sounds like we are losing luggage from underneath but really we had blew a tire. This caused us to fall behind schedule even more because we rode along the side of the highway for about 1 hr. thne decide to exit in Hickory. Luckily when we stop we stop beside a Fudruckers where everybody gets off and gets something to eat and we watch the Falcons/Eagles game. So finally we make it home at around 7 when we were supposed to be home around 2.
Anyways Avalanche was tons of fun and great fun. We have pictures and I will put them up as soon as I get the chance
